Dear Julie and Ryan, Please accept our deepest condolences on the loss of your beloved Doug. He was a wonderful friend of our family for many years, and we shared many most enjoyable memories together. Whether at formal dinner at your home, sipping wine in our backyard, quaffing an ale in the family room, or catching up at a nearby restaurant, the conversations were always most delightful and stimulating, and there was never a shortage of little gifts to be shared amongst one another. Doug was a most thoughtful, caring, generous, humorous and academically insightful gentleman. We had many wonderful conversations over law, science, politics and assorted humorous anecdotal life experiences....never a dull moment. We most enjoyed singing Christmas karaoke songs together. Dear Julie, please let all your relations know that I was sorry to here of Dougald's passing. I share in your sadness in the passing of the man I only new as The Honourable Justice McDermid. I had the pleasure of appearing before him many times. I enjoyed getting your help when you too were working at 80 Dundas Street. While he was best known to me as "your Honour", he was gracious, considerate and well regarded by my colleagues and I. He was a person of good judgment, good humour, and as a very hard-working judge. Dear Julie, Ryan and the McDermid Family, Please accept my condolences for the loss of Doug's life. The Obituary is a beautiful testament to how remarkable Doug's life was. He was without any doubt, a highly accomplished, productive and vital individual recognized for his great knowledge, skills and kindness. He was a great leader, mentor and contributor to our legal system and recognized formally for this. It was always a deep pleasure and delight to connect with him as, despite being so highly regarded, he was also very humble and approachable. He will be deeply missed.
