Obituary of Doreen Robinson

On January 25, 2025, our beautiful mom, Doreen Robinson (nee Cooper) in her 94th year left this world to be with her husband of 70 years, and our dad, Allan Robinson (Dec 26, 2024). She passed peacefully at McCormick Home in her hometown of London. Born September 22, 1931 (a virgo!), to Jack and Irene Cooper (Cornish), she was the most loving, caring and supportive mother (mother-in-law) to Scott, John (Kim) and Jan Robinson-Welychka (Ed) and a cherished grandmother to her grandchildren Ami Pethick (Adam), Kyle Robinson (Alanna Watt), Katie Robinson (Dean Myerscough), Kelsey Robinson (Sam Skalosky), Mitchell Robinson, Quinn Welychka (Laurel McGillis) and Brett Welychka (Karlee); proud gigi to Aya and Addy Pethick; step-grandmother great-grandmother to Scott Siegers (Loni) and their children Weston and Josie. She is survived by her sister and best friend Carol Menzies, her husband Peter and predeceased by her brother Donald Cooper and sisters Patricia Prowse, and Linda Sparling. Our family has been blessed with the support of so many wonderful people over the years who have helped us care for our parents in so many ways. Our deepest gratitude to our cousins Dianne Twynstra and Lori Hargreaves for their endless support.

Our parents met at Labatt Park in 1951 while dad was pitching for the London Lou Ball Jr's, and mom was working in the actuarial department at London Life. They married in September 1954 and built their home and family in Oakridge Acres, moving to Woodstock in 1974 when our dad was transferred by London Life. They were members of Craigowen Golf Club where our mom scored two hole-in-ones on two different holes! They moved back to London in 1995 and continued the many friendships made over the years spending 33 years at Sunningdale G&C Club in the summer and at their condo and golf club in Tarpon Springs Florida in the winter.

Our mom stayed-at-home to raise us, dedicating her life to her family, always putting everyone first, herself last. She was so much fun to be with, so full of life, so selfless in every single way. She spent the last 15 years as a caregiver for our dad, continuously putting his needs above her own. Our mom had impeccable taste, was always beautifully dressed (and made sure our dad was too!), she decorated like a professional, she loved driving her convertible with the top down (license plate 2 ACES), she always had so much fun during shopping trips and lunches with "the girls" (Jan, Carol, Lori, Dianne, Maddie, Karlee), and, was the proudest grandma at the Bud Gardens cheering on her grandson, Brett, playing for the London Knights. While her physical age was 93, in her mind, she was not a day over 40; intelligent, spunky with a drive to live forever, be involved in our lives and always support us. Even during her last days, she was on top of everything, not wanting to leave us, and looking forward to a new great-grandchild this summer.

We are grateful to the doctors, nurses and PSW's at University Hospital and McCormick Home for the compassion and care provided to our parents.

Mom, we love you and will miss you beyond words, we are thankful we had such a loving mom and grandmother for our children for as long as we did. "You are gone, but thank you for all these soft, sweet things you left behind. In my home, in my head, in my heart."—Nikita Gill
