SQUIRE, Hilda Alice
June 20, 1926 - May 4, 2025
Hilda Alice Squire in her 99th year, passed away peacefully on Sunday May 4, 2025 surrounded and cared for by her children and the wonderful staff at Strathmere Lodge. Hilda was born on June 20, 1926 in the village of Cleobury Mortimer in Shropshire, England in a time that few of us can imagine. Hilda went to work in a munitions factory during the war at the age of 14 near Birmingham, England. After the war she met and married a young British officer, Kenneth Squire (1926-2014). In 1953 she left England with her two young children Lyn Clarke (husband David) and Christopher (partner Anna) and joined Ken in Montreal and then later in London, Ontario. The couple began with very little but over the years they settled into a comfortable life with many friends and a growing family. During the years in London two more sons, Philip (spouse Jolanda) and David (partner Kathy) arrived followed by grandchildren Jennifer, Heather, Emma, Johanna, Adelaide, Liam, Jacob and Kendra and great-grandchildren Karylton, Davis, Henry, Dalila, Ben, Stella, Lyla, Cooper, Vivian and Leo.
Hilda was a devoted mother to her family. A traditional English cook, no one could resist her roast beef dinners every Sunday. She was an avid gardener and a life long member of the Victoria Hospital Auxiliary where she volunteered in the hospital gift shop for many years.
Cremation has occurred and there will be a private interment with her family. She will be greatly missed by all.
