Obituary of Norma Mae Olson
In Loving Memory of Norma Mae OLSON
July 5, 1937 – May 10, 2025
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Norma Mae Olson (née Welch) aged 87, who left us peacefully on May 10, 2025, surrounded by her family in London, Ontario. She was a beloved mother, grandmother, and sister.
Norma was born on July 5 1937, in Stettler, Alberta. She lived a life marked by hard work unwavering devotion to her family. As a farm girl in Erskine, Norma had various exciting experiences, such as: she stepped on a nail and had the beginnings of blood poisoning; she nearly cracked her head open on a rock after falling off a swing; she was chased by a bull; and she was nearly run over by a combine. But she survived all that and left home at the age of 17 to begin work as a bank teller at the Royal Bank in Stettler in 1954. After that, she moved to Calgary, marrying Clifford Olson in 1966, and working at the Bank of Montreal until her retirement in 1996. Finally, Norma left her home province at the age of 64 to move across the country to Ontario and assist in the raising of her two granddaughters, which she did with love and dedication.
Norma was predeceased by her husband, Clifford Vernon Olson; her brother Harry, sister Kay, and parents George and Katherine. Her beloved younger sister Margaret passed away early in 2022; we know these two sisters are now together again and probably up to no good. Norma is survived by her daughters Kelly and Susan (Murray Epp); her four grandchildren, Katharine, Isabella, Ryder, and Logan, who brought her endless joy and pride; and her two brothers Doug (Ruth) and Tom (Bette), and countless nieces and nephews. Norma’s love for her family was evident in everything she did: her remembrance of birthdays and anniversaries with phone calls, cards, and presents; her love of family photo albums; and the sacrifices she made every day to always put her family first.
Norma’s ashes will be scattered in Alberta at a later date, over the graves of her parents and sister Margaret.
One of her favorite activities was watching her bird feeders, and so in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to BirdsCanada.org:

She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered. Her family would like to thank the medical care team at University Hospital, London, ON.
