Obituary of Linda Faye Smith

August 5, 1952 - June 20, 2025

Linda Faye Smith of London ON, passed away peacefully with her family by her side on Friday, June 20, 2025, at the age of 72 years.

Linda will be deeply missed by her husband of 54 years, Harvey Smith, children Ryan (Rachel) Smith and Vanessa Devitt (Jay Redmond), and four grandchildren.  She is also mourned by brothers Larry (Marilyn) Smith and Brian Smith, sister Betty (Stan) Lockhurst and a host of extended family members and friends.

Linda was born August 5, 1952, in Port Arthur ON to the late Charley and Mildred (nee Bell) Smith.  Linda was always grateful for a childhood rich in experience as the child of Officers (Ministers) of the Salvation Army, learning from an early age how to live with strength of character, compassion for others, and faith in God.

Linda and Harvey were married in Victoria BC in 1971.  Linda was the wise and loving foundation of her growing family as careers took them to locations from coast to coast across Canada and into the USA.  She inspired the best in her family and everyone around her.  She made lasting friendships in every community she lived, and even those who briefly met her recalled her positive joy, sincerity, and genuine interest in their well-being.  Fulfilling her childhood desire, Linda followed a career in Nursing in Winnipeg, Ottawa, Victoria and Calgary, caring for others with compassion and dedication.  In retirement she felt grateful and blessed that she could be part of the lives of her children and grandchildren, connect with family members in Scotland, and travel the world to experience its wonder.

Although Linda fought a courageous three-year battle with cancer, she never let her illness define her.  She was determined to live her whole life to the fullest regardless of challenges that arose.   Her joy and gratitude for life, life-long faith, deep love of family, and her compassion and friendship for others remained evident to all to the very end.  We who knew and loved her celebrate her life and are forever grateful for having been able to share her joy and be recipients of her love.

A Celebration of Life service in honor of Linda Smith will be held Saturday, 5 July 2025, at 2:00 pm at the Salvation Army London Citadel, 555 Springbank Drive, London, ON N6J 1H3.  The Celebration of Life will be live streamed at www.youtube.com/@LondonCitadel/live.
