I have so many wonderful memories with Sig. He made me feel really at home when I moved here as a young violinist joining OLC. He always had so much spirit and energy that helped OLC feel like a family. I will miss you Sig!

Dear Buffy, Dan and I were deeply saddened to learn of Sigmar's death. We have such good memories of Dan's years in Orchestra London working with Sigmar. Some especially precious memories come from when they were in the Rossini Quartet together. Sigmar was a wonderful musician and a fine human being, and the world is a little smaller with his passing. Our thoughts are with you and your family, Gail Golden

Musical mentor of inspiring, creative, generous spirit, Sig leaves a profound, far-reaching legacy and some very special memories among those lucky enough to have known him and played in his SigStrings workshops and ensemble. I first met Sig as an adult violin student with only a couple of years of study to my credit; he was kind and encouraging to everyone in his group, no matter how inexperienced. He also shared his musical arrangements with the director of the current ensemble I participate in, and we are all grateful for his support and generosity. Sig's calm demeanour and sense of fun capped off his many wonderful attributes for which he'll be fondly remembered ~ and Valhalla will be the richer for his musical gifts.

Dear Buffy, Amanda, Todd and Family,
It was with such great sadness that I read on Sig’s Facebook page , of his passing . I had been following his journey and had hoped that better days ahead would prevail. I so enjoyed working with Sid on many fundraising events and education concerts before and after I joined the Board of OLC. My family and I also had the pleasure of having Sig entertain in our home along with other special OLC and Jeans ‘n Classics Band members , as well as at our daughter’s wedding . I have wonderful memories of these times. I am heartbroken that I will be unable to attend the service on Monday as we have had a trip scheduled. I am sending you all my prayers.

A gaggle of very young musicians invaded London in the mid 70s, among them Sigmar and me. What a time it was. And Sigmar's big personality made it fun and memorable

Sigmar was a great friend and colleague in Orchestra London and London Symphonia for 44 years. I admired his warmth and happy optimism. He was a good violinist and luthier. He did excellent repairs on my violin and bow. Sig put his heart and soul into Orchestra London. He did a lot of volunteer work for the orchestra on the players' committee and on fundraisers like Interiors and the annual rummage sales. In the last few years Sig lead an orchestra for which he arranged music that was possible for many levels of players.
Years ago, my husband enjoyed playing hockey with Sig. My husband met Sig a week or so before his passing. He was very impressed by Sig's positive attitude about his situation. We will miss seeing him at London Youth Symphony concerts.
Buffy, our thoughts are with you and your family.

Our sincere sympathy goes out to all the Martin family at this time on the loss of Sigmar. My ( Karin) memory of Sigmar goes way back to our violin studies together at Brandon University, both taking violin from the same teacher, both getting into the National Youth Orchestra of Canada the same year. We have made connections with several different family members over the years ( Buffy, Pauline, Mel, Todd and Patty), and you are all in our thoughts and prayers now.
Rick and Karin Klassen,

Sig was a great hockey friend. He loved the game and gave his best. In the dressing room he shared his humour with a twinkle in his eye. We would often catch a look from each other to share a laugh. I will miss him.

Absolutely heartbroken to hear that the incomparable Sigmar Martin passed away yesterday. I joined his orchestra, Sigstrings, in 2019 and from the start, Maestro Martin made me feel welcomed. He was the most encouraging conductor and violin teacher I've ever had. Some of his stock phrases during lessons and rehearsals will always guide my violin playing and serve as messages for how to live my life: "Look Ahead", "Don't Rush", and "Pay attention to Dynamics." Not only was he an amazing musician and first-rate teacher, but he had the biggest heart of gold that you could ever imagine. I'm so glad I was able to play for him last Sunday with members of Sigstrings, and to have Sig conduct us one last time. Rest in peace my teacher and my friend. And sending much love to Buffy and all of Sig’s family as they mourn his passing.

I first met Siggie about 5 years ago at London Senior Hockey and was impressed with his hockey skills. As I got to know him better and learned of his great musical talent and background, we had many conversations about music and life in general. He had a great sense of humour and was also a very caring individual, being involved with helping the homeless and other good causes. On Friday July 11, his many hockey friends had the opportunity to hear him play at his celebration of life luncheon at the legion where he showed us his talent on the violin and also did a great Frank Sinatra impersonation while singing! I was honoured to call Sig my friend and he will be greatly missed by all of us that knew him.
Rest in Peace, my friend.

I was so lucky to call Sig my friend. I met him over 40 years ago auditioning for the orchestra. And got to know him better later working with him in his shop ( though not for long, as we had too much fun and we wouldn’t get enough work done). These last years since he retired we had a lot of lunches and breakfasts together. I will miss him terribly but I am so happy to have had his friendship. My deepest sympathies to you Buffy and the whole family I know how much he loved you and how much he was loved in return. He will be missed by so many.
