Obituary of L. Jane Fleet

In Loving Memory of

L. Jane Fleet

April 23, 1948 –Aug 20, 2025

Age 77

L. Jane Fleet, 77, of St. Thomas, Ontario, passed away peacefully after a courageous battle with cancer. She was lovingly cared for throughout her illness by her family, Ontario Health at Home, the nurses with VON, and the Barrie Family Hospice of Elgin.

Born on April 23, 1948, Jane was a woman of quiet strength and deep generosity. She dedicated much of her life to caring for others—working in health care on 6 North East at St. Joseph’s Hospital in London, Ontario, and later as a compassionate Personal Support Worker (PSW). Never one to shy away from adventure, Jane proudly took to the road as an AZ driver for Challenger Motor Freight, going the distance across Canada and the U.S.

Jane found joy in life’s simple pleasures—reading, knitting, volunteering at the local mission store, and spending hours completing Sudoku and jigsaw puzzles. Her most cherished moments were those spent with her grandchildren, with whom she shared many loving and lasting memories.

She was the beloved wife of Eugene McDowell and loving mother of Jody (Steve), the late Jeff, the late Jason, and Meredith (Christian). She is also survived by her grandchildren Mina, Alyssa (Jake), Ryan, Ella, and Lucy; and great-grandchildren Nolan, Mia, and Brynnlee.

Jane is lovingly remembered by her sister Diane (Vince), and was predeceased by her brothers Reg, Bill, and Thomas. She will be deeply missed by her nieces and nephews, who each held a special place in her heart.

A memorial service to celebrate Jane’s life will be held at the St. Thomas Golf and Country Club on Sept 6, 2025 from 2 - 4.  All who knew and loved Jane are warmly invited to attend.
