Obituary of Nancy Ruth (Casselton) Best
Peacefully at Longworth Retirement Residence, surrounded by her family on Friday, September 19, 2025, at the age of 90. Nancy was predeceased by her husband Jack (2021). They were married 65 years. Loving mom of Jacqui Seys (Roman Bardyla) and Jeff Best (Michelle). Cherished grandma of Ryan (Kali), Sarah (Alex), Richelle (John) and Katie (Kevin). Adored great-grandma of Joshua, Henry, Grady, Greyson, Peyton, Quinn, Corbin, Spencer, Paige, Brett and Hannah. Dear sister of Shirley Grummett (Jack) and Joan Beckett. Predeceased by her parents, Sydney and Ruth Casselton and sister Judy McCrory (John). Fondly remembered by many nieces, and nephews.
Nancy graduated as a nurse from Hamilton General Hospital in 1956. She gave up her career in nursing to support Jack's career journey with Bell Canada. They moved several times from Simcoe to Dryden to Thunder Bay and finally to London for their remaining years. Fun summers were shared with extended family at their cottage in Turkey Point. Nancy was a wonderful wife, stay-at-home mom, grandma, great grandma, sister, sister-in-law, aunt and friend to so many people whose lives she touched. Nancy was always serving others by “doing”, cooking, listening and supporting in her own quiet way. She had a somewhat sarcastic witty sense of humour always meant to put a smile on your face which it usually did! She loved curling, crosswords, suduko, bridge, bingo and trivia. She was an incredibly strong, positive, amazingly smart woman with a memory that was admired by many right up to the end.
Our family would like to thank Dr. Cejic, Dr. Mura and Dr. MacLean for their excellent care and understanding of our mom’s wishes. Our deepest gratitude to the team at Longworth for their care and friendship over the years as well as loving our dad during his time living there. We were touched by the honour guard you created as mom left the building one last time.
As per Nancy’s wishes, there will be no funeral service. Cremation has taken place. Those wishing to make a donation in memory of Nancy are asked to consider Breast Cancer Canada or a charity of your choice.
