Obituary of Margaret Elizabeth Porter

It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of Margaret “Midge” Elizabeth Porter, on September 24, 2025, due to multiple health complications.

Midge was born on October 2, 1935, to her loving parents, Edward and Elizabeth Horner, in Toronto, Ontario. She lived a long and fulfilling 89 years; during that time, Midge and her husband, Stanley James Porter (predeceased), married, raised three children, ran successful businesses, and built a beautiful family cottage near Bobcaygeon, Ontario.

Midge is survived by her loving son, Stephen Porter; her three grandchildren, Joshua Porter, Samantha Porter, and Victoria Porter; her great-grandchild, Theodore Porter-Skyers; and her beloved cat, Mitzy. She will be remembered and missed for her quick wit, warm heart, and her ability to bring humour to any situation. In retirement, Midge loved to travel, one if her favourite places to visit was Australia. At her home in Orangeville, Ontario, she could often be found crafting for her family, friends and those in need (Sew on Fire) from her endless supply of wool. Her family will always cherish the personal touch she brought to holidays through the countless hours spent creating new crafts to celebrate each season.

A closed service will be held in London, Ontario, on September 30, 2025, where the family will honour Midge with shared memories of the joyous moments of her life. A public memorial may be announced at a later date, once the family has had time together.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to PBS Broadcasting, as Midge was a supporter of its values, educational content, and children’s programming.
