Obituary of Mark David Young
It is with great sadness that we announce the unexpected, and sudden passing of Mark David Young on September 25, 2025 in London, Ontario.
He is survived by his sisters Andrea “Andee” Young, and Karen Wickham (Mark); nieces, Ashleigh Suter (Dan), Amy Wickham (Preston); and nephew, Dave Wickham (Elisabeth).
Mark was born in Scotland and travelled soon after, with mom (crying the whole flight!), to join Dad in Canada (London, Ontario). As a boy it was quickly discovered that Mark was brilliant in many ways. He was a gifted scholar, talented artist (taking after his father), and natural musician; able to pick up any instrument and play by ear. His life-long passion was the guitar, and he spent countless hours “jamming” to his favourite tunes including Rush, Pink Floyd, Kiss, and Gordon Lightfoot.
Mark also had a great sense of humour, one that never quit. He loved reciting Monty Python skits (a family favourite), with full accents included! Mark was very competitive and loved to proclaim victory over the world in a game of Risk lasting many hours. He would never turn down a game of Wizard, Chercles, or Monopoly. Mark had the best long-term memory in the family, and many family stories will be lost with him.
Among those memories were the “Young Clan” family adventures; a year in the south of France, a cross-country trek to Vancouver, and numerous camping excursions in remote places. At the top of the list was the year the family spent in Santa Barbara, California. Here he learned to surf, and his love for skateboarding took off! Many countless hours lost to skateparks and the ocean.
As Autumn sets upon us we are reminded how much Mark loved to hike this time of year. While we are on the trails, we know he's walking alongside us.
There will be no formal service, as the family has chosen to celebrate privately. In lieu of flowers, we ask if you wish to make a donation in Mark's name it be to the Schizophrenia Society of Canada or St. Joseph's Healthcare - Mental Health.
