Joyce Elaine Mullin
December 30, 1949 – October 25, 2025
Joyce Elaine Mullin passed away peacefully at Parkwood Hospital on October 25, with her children by her side, after a long and fearless battle with cancer. She was 75.
Born in Stratford, Ontario, on December 30, 1949, and raised on a farm near Seaforth, Joyce was the daughter of Hazel and Herb Harrison and the beloved sister of Anita, Lorne, Ray, Ivy, Gayle, and Eric. Life on the farm taught her the value of hard work, but from a young age she knew her true calling was nursing and caring for others.
At just 17, Joyce left home to attend St. Joseph’s Nursing School in London, graduating with the Class of 1970. It was then that she met her lifelong soulmate, Earl Mullin. Together they built a beautiful life and raised two children — Sarah (Todd Troupe) and Michael (Heather Scott).
A lifelong learner, Joyce returned to university twice while working as a nurse and raising a family, earning both her BScN and MEd. She was a passionate nursing educator at the University of Western Ontario and Fanshawe College, where she was deeply respected by colleagues and loved by her students. Later, as a manager at St. Thomas Elgin General Hospital, Joyce played a lead role in opening the hospital’s Complex Continuing Care Unit.
In her mid-forties, Joyce discovered a love for running. What began as a hobby became a passion — she went on to complete 24 marathons across North America, including the Boston Marathon twice - Collecting medals and friends along the way.
Joyce’s generous spirit extended beyond her professional life. She volunteered extensively throughout London, lending her time and care to her grandchildren’s schools, local sporting events, and countless community initiatives.
In her retirement, Joyce cherished summers spent with Earl and friends at Maitland Pines Campground
Above all, Joyce found her greatest joy in her family. She was a devoted and proud grandmother to Michaela and Naomi Troupe, and Madeline and Makenna Mullin.
The family extends heartfelt thanks to the compassionate staff at Parkwood Hospital Palliative Care Unit for the exceptional care and comfort they provided to someone who spent her own life caring for others.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Elsie Perrin Williams Estate on November 22 from 3:00 – 6:00 p.m.
