Obituary of Luise Meta Hesse

We are sad to announce that Luise Meta (Onken) Hesse has passed away on December 8, 2025 in her 86th year. 

She was born in 1940 in Quackenbruck, Germany.  Her early years in war-time and post-war Germany were fraught with challenges and sacrifice, though she trained and made a successful career in domestic service as the housekeeper in an affluent household, establishing an excellent reputation for her cooking, baking, and keeping an organized home. Through resulting connections, she emigrated to Montreal, Canada to work also as the housekeeper in another such household.   She spent many years in Northern Ontario, raising a family, eventually moving to London, Ontario, for the last 35 years of her life; there, she had a long-time career working for the Comfort Inn.

Luise was very skilled in the domestic arts, and enjoyed sharing her cooking and baking, but was truly passionate about her gardening, which was her creative outlet throughout her time living in Northern Ontario and London.

She is predeceased by her son, Thomas Hesse, and survived by her son, Manuel Onken (Christiane Schulte), and daughter Christine Hesse (Alan Machan) and granddaughter, Charlotte Machan.

Cremation has taken place.
