My condolences and prayers to the Morrison family.
Jim was such a great individual and mentor to me as a young 17-year-old. I’m sure there are countless similar stories. Being away from home for the first time, playing for Jim’s Kingston Canadians, I remember feeling homesick—but he created such a warm and welcoming culture for all of us. He brought together a group of young players and taught us what it truly meant to play as a team and what pro hockey is all about.
Having eight players drafted to the NHL in the 1980 draft remains a club record for Kingston and speaks volumes about his leadership and impact.
Jim was also a great family man. I had the chance to get to know his son, Dave, over the years, and it’s clear the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree—he’s a great individual as well, even when I had to compete against him.
I’m grateful I had the opportunity to run into Jim in the Leafs Alumni Suite and thank him for everything he did for me during our time together.
Rest in peace, Jim.
