David Foster

Obituary of David William Foster

It is with great sadness that the family of David William Foster announce his passing on Saturday, February 7th, 2026, at age 86. He is survived by his beloved wife of 55 years Wendy Carol Foster (Gaskell) and will be deeply missed by his two daughters, Debby Foster Sparks (Jeff) and Jacqui Foster Ostrom (Brian). David was the adored grandfather to his four grandchildren whom he was immensely proud of: Emily, Allison, Benjamin, and Erin. Dear brother of Keith Foster (Mary), late Willard Foster (Mora), and Mary Jean McDougall (Peter). Loving son of the late Clare and Eva Foster, son in law of the late Percy and Margaret Gaskell. David will be fondly remembered by his nieces, nephews, former students, and many friends.

David loved life’s simple joys such as architecture, golfing, curling, crokinole, happy hours, and a good scoop of Chapman’s ice cream. Among all the things he loved, nothing brought him more happiness than time spent skiing with his grandchildren. Those early days on the slopes, filled with hot chocolate and cookies, grew into cherished moments having cold drinks by the fire as the kids got older. These moments weren’t about skiing as much as they were about being together - laughing, talking, and simply enjoying each other’s presence. In each story, each smile, and each tradition that carries on, his spirit lives on.

The family wishes to extend their deepest gratitude to the Behavioural Response Team and Sub-Acute Medicine Unit (9th floor) at University Hospital for their exceptional care and kindness shown to David.

A celebration of life to honour David will be held on Saturday February 28th, 2026 at Westhaven Golf Course, 7038 Egremont Drive, from 1-4pm. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations can be made to the Alzheimer's Society.
