Celebrating Carol Myers

Our family lost a legend February 18, 2026. Our matriarch Carol Elizabeth Myers passed away in her home surrounded by family in London, Ontario.

Carol was born in London, Ontario on December 15, 1937 to parents Jean Hayes Myers (Bryant) and Bernard Russell Myers. She grew up with two siblings: Jane and Joan.  She married Robert James Cornish in 1957 and had four kids: Cathy, Steve, Shauna and Lori. Carol and Robert divorced in 1964.

She married Tom Whealy in 1967 and spoke fondly of their time travelling. In her early 40s, she loved cross country skiing, riding her horse Smokey and took up jogging on the lake road in Wallacetown.  She transformed an old farm house with a dilapidated landscape into a picturesque garden with sunflowers and cannabis plants growing out the top of the greenhouse.

Tom and Carol divorced in the early 1980s. She moved back to London and had an apartment in Old South. Carol went to the Darcy Lane Institute and became a Registered Massage Therapist in 1987. She worked hard to build her life back up after being a stay at home mom her entire adult life. She started a massage business with Bonnie Graham and moved to the Massage Therapy Centre. She enjoyed tai chi and eventually began teaching.

In 1991, she had to advocate for herself to get a mortgage as a single woman. They kept asking where her husband was and she said she didn't have one but she wanted a mortgage. She was eventually approved and put an offer on a house. Carol was one of three offers, the two others were higher offers from developers. The homeowner was a single woman too so she chose Carol's offer. She moved her massage practice into her home in 1994 and ran a successful massage business until her retirement in 2016. Carol was a trailblazer. She helped clear the path for the women who followed.

Carol was feisty, funny, stubborn, smart and caring. She had an eccentric style and way to her that rubbed off on all of us. She was passionate about her family. She loved her kids and grandkids and they were the primary focus of her life. She taught us the importance of sharing a meal with family, her house was the epicentre for hundreds of Sunday dinners. Then she'd caringly kick us out when she'd had enough socializing. She loved spending time in her backyard and in the garden.

Many family members are missing her and celebrating her life, including her sister Jane, her children Cathy, Steve, Shauna and Lori, her nieces Morgan, Jen, her nephew Greg, her grandchildren Jillien, Melissa, Allison, Angela, Katie, Shane, Robert, and her great-grandchildren Andrew, Ella, Evelyn, Scarlett, and many others.

Carol's family sends a heartfelt thank-you to Sandeep and the other nurses and PSWs with Paramed. Thank-you to Dr. Watson, her primary care physician.

On the evening of her death there was a loud thunderstorm with hail. Her family thinks it was her vibrant spirit, not ready to go but if she had to, she'd go with a bang. Remember to live like Carol did: speak your mind, be bold, wear the fur coat.
