Obituary of Christopher Allen Shannon

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Christopher Allen Shannon on March 19, 2026, at Victoria Hospital in London, Ontario, after a prolonged illness. He was born on July 20, 1963, in Collingwood, Ontario, to William George Shannon (predeceased) and Carol Anne Ridley (now Mieczaniec).

He spent his early years near Thornbury, Ontario, where he enjoyed an idyllic upbringing filled with horseback riding, hiking, skiing, and swimming in the waters of Georgian Bay. He pursued his education in London, Ontario, earning a Bachelor of Arts in History from the University of Western Ontario. He and his partner Corrine welcomed their son, Alexander in London.

His professional path took him to the Kingston area, where he served for 11 years as a Staff Officer to the Chief of Staff, Army Training System at Canadian Forces Base Kingston. Later returning to London, Chris and Alex shared their home with their beloved French bulldog, Oscar. He worked as a By-law Officer with the Commissionaires in London. He also pursued diplomas from Fanshawe College and Westervelt College in project management and business accounting.

A proud and dedicated member of the Canadian Armed Forces, he served for 28 years reaching the rank of Captain, with the First Hussars Armoured Primary Reserve Regiment, based in London and Sarnia. His commitment to service extended beyond his military career through his involvement with a local veterans support network, founded by his late friend Brock Millman, and through which he formed valued friendships that provided him with great support, especially in the past year.

Chris enjoyed history and researching his family ancestry. He always loved the outdoors, particularly canoe camping in Temagami with his close friend David Falkenburger. He most treasured spending quality time with his son Alex—whether walking Oscar in the Park, playing Dungeons & Dragons, cooking creative meals (often with their Instant Pot), or watching films from his extensive DVD collection.

His tastes in music, literature, and film reflected his rich inner life—he loved the music of Simon and Garfunkel, books such as The Hobbit, The Lord of the Rings, various Arthurian Legends and The Flashman Papers, and enjoyed films including classic spaghetti westerns like My Name is Nobody.

He will be deeply missed by his beloved son, Alexander; his mother, Carol Mieczaniec and her husband Edward Mieczaniec; his sister Karen Shannon and her partner Rudy Meeser, along with her children Devin and Connor Ouellette and Connor’s daughter Nina; and his brother William Shannon and his spouse Jyoti Sapra-Shannon, and their children Kirin and Nimisha. He also leaves behind many friends, colleagues, and fellow veterans who will remember him with great respect and affection.

He will be remembered for his dedication to service, his quiet strength, loyalty, and the deep love he held for his family and friends.

A celebration of life will be announced at a later date.
