Obituary of J. Stephen Virag

J. Stephen Virag

September 22,1948 - April 30, 2026

It is with heavy hearts, and deep gratitude for a life so well lived, that we announce the passing of our beloved husband, father, and Papa on April 30, 2026.

He leaves behind his devoted wife and best friend, Toni (Belliveau), and his proud sons, Stephen (Corey) and James (Krysten). He was a loving and playful Papa to his cherished grandchildren, Delyla, Raegan, and Hank, who brought him endless joy.

Steve was predeceased by his parents, Julius and Donna (Fife); his brother, Richard; and his father-in-law, Tony. He will be dearly missed by his sister-in-law, Donna; his mother-in-law, Helen; as well as his many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Steve dedicated 33½ years to the London Police Service before retiring in 2004. He carried that same sense of commitment, integrity, and care into every part of his life.

A natural athlete and fierce competitor, Steve’s love for fastball began at the age of 9 in Fingal. Known as “Thumper,” he earned a reputation as one of the best pitchers in the game before hanging up his glove at the age of 42. He later shared that passion as a coach in youth baseball, hockey, and YBC, leaving a lasting impression on the many young athletes he mentored.

He found joy in life’s simple pleasures—time spent on the golf course, at the bowling alley, traveling with friends, and soaking up the Florida sunshine during the winter months. His kindness, positivity, and unwavering love for those around him will be remembered always.

While he had many accomplishments throughout his life, his greatest pride and joy was his treasured family.

A celebration of life will be held at the Byron Royal Canadian Legion, 1276 Commissioners Rd W, London, ON N6K 1E1, on May 30, 2026, from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.
