Gayle McDonald

Obituary of Gayle Patricia McDonald

After a courageous six-year journey with cancer, Gayle McDonald, aged 68, passed away at St. Joseph’s Hospice, London, Ontario on May 27, 2026.

Predeceased by her parents Donald and Frances McDonald, she leaves behind sisters Marilyn (Brian), Kathryn, and brother Bruce (Susan), as well as many nieces, nephews, and caring friends.

A native of London, Gayle lived here most of her life, except for a brief time spent in Waterloo. She returned to London to work in her chosen medical field and eventually moved back into her family home — a house proudly built by hand by her mother and father. Gayle spent countless hours crafting and knitting handmade items, which she generously donated to various shelters throughout London. She was also very devoted to the cats she loved throughout her life and will be dearly missed by her companions, Kelsie and Karly.

The family extends a special thank you to the friends and neighbours who spent time during the weeks leading up to her passing to be with her to comfort her. Deepest gratitude is also extended to the doctors and medical staff at Verspeeten Family Cancer Centre, Victoria Hospital Palliative Care and especially to the staff at St. Joseph’s Hospice for the gentle care and comfort they provided during her final days.

There will be no funeral service. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory to St. Joseph’s Hospice, the Verspeeten Family Cancer Centre-Victoria Hospital, or the Canadian Cancer Society would be deeply appreciated.
