Mr Linas...you were one of the first people I met upon moving here from Winnipeg...and have considered you family ever since.
We shared so many shenanigans...good and bad. And I miss you deeply...but I will do my best to honour your memory..always.
Cheers to Mexican street corn, late nights at Ridout, and making me a better person for knowing you. xox

Dear Devin,
Dan and I were born in the same year so, in my mind throughout our childhood and beyond, that made him special. Over the years, I considered Dan to be my "cool" cousin, my "classy" cousin, my "successful and well traveled" cousin, whom I always admired.
I was always touched by the caring and devoted relationship that he nurtured with Nanny and Aunt Margaret. While the rest of us seemed too busy, Dan always found the time for them through their difficult later years.
After Lorna passed, I realized that I may never have the occasion to see him again; and for that, I was deeply saddened.
Since I will treasure the few recollections I have, I can imagine the wealth of memories that will sustain you.
Please remember how much Dan was loved, respected and admired... if only we had not run out of time.

Our deepest sympathy to Devin and family on the much too soon loss of Daniel Linas. He was a gentle, thoughtful soul in a world that can be harsh.
Danny was the first grandchild to Tomas and Elena Siurna of Ottawa, and was adored. His grandfather was an engineering graduate of the Technical University in Berlin, and instilled in Danny his love and value of education.
Danny embraced his Lithuanian heritage, and visited Lithuania in 2008, along with his father, Leo, and my wife and I.
Our thanks to Devin for his love and support to Danny.

My husband Bruce and I (Jinny) lived in an apartment across the hall from Linas at 49 Ridout St. He occasionally borrowed our kittens for a furry friends visit. I remember him as a great neighbour and a kind, classy person.

I worked with Linas for approximately 10 years at Ultra. He was a true professional and an excellent mentor, with an encyclopedic knowledge of Free Flooded Rings (and all things sonar!). He made us all better. My sincere condolences to Devin, and all of Linas’s family and friends.

Devin, Donny, Tommy and the Siurna Family,
We were very saddened to learn of Danny's passing.
Our thoughts immediately went back to the many Siurna and Pleckaitis family gatherings from years ago, especially the summers at Wasaga Beach, which we know Danny enjoyed so much. The Siurna and Pleckaitis families were among a small group of relatives who made Canada their home after arriving in the 1940s, and the wonderful memories created at your grandparents' home with our cousins and their children have stayed with us throughout the years.
Reading about Danny's life, you can only be amazed by all that he accomplished in his career, the places he travelled, and the experiences he embraced. He lived life fully, with curiosity, intelligence, and a spirit of adventure. We were especially touched by the life he and Devin built together over more than three decades, and by the many memories, friendships, and experiences they shared along the way.
Our thoughts are with your family during this difficult time. We hope and pray that the many memories of Danny bring comfort in the days ahead.
David, Arunas, Peter and the Pleckaitis Family

My sincere condolences to Devin and Dan's brothers Donald-Wendy , Thomas-Caroline on their lose.
Born and raised so far from the ocean I was always surprised about his career choice.
During our adult lives we lived to far apart to see each often. When we did meet, I enjoyed hearing of all the places he visited on this planet.
Dan gave me the status of Uncle. He lived a great life.
I will miss him. Uncle John

I can’t believe Linas left us so quickly! I met Linas in 2009 when I joined Ultra Electronics. He welcomed me right away as a team member and made me comfortable in the place. His professionalism is so inspirational.
Thank you Linas for the waves… The acoustical ones, that you know so well, and the ones of kindness and brilliance that your beautiful mind radiates. We learned a lot from you. It takes human hearts to bear a company’s soul and last Friday Ultra lost 21 grams…
I guess life is beautiful and cruel at the same time. This pain is the price to pay for the good moments you shared with us. I find it a bit high though… You could have stayed a little longer with us.
I don’t know you Devin, but my thoughts are with you and the ones you love. Without you, your Dan would not have been our Linas at Ultra.
Sincerely,
Olivier

Wow this is hard to take in and definitely unexpected. I knew Linas for more than 20 years when he worked for Ultra Electronics. He definitely was one of our key sonar experts at Ultra and we leaned on him heavily on the Dutch MAPS program as well as his extensive knowledge of Free Flooded Rings, which he brought with him from Sparton Electronics. A man of true character and high personal morals, I enjoyed sharing meals and fine red wine with him whenever he visited Halifax (usually staying at the Haliburton House). We often talked travel and his ongoing quest to remain Superelite with Air Canada, his seemingly constant renovations to rental properties and of course cars. His pride and joy, aside from Devin, were his V-10 powered BMW M5 and his vintage V-8 Corvette. You left us far too soon and will be truly missed my friend! Hope for Wildlife can count on a contribution from me in your name.

Linas was a guiding light for me in both underwater acoustics and basic humanity. His clear thinking had a way of unraveling the complex, showing the way, and he is deeply missed. Heartfelt condolences to Devin and all his people.
