Wayne Newson

Obituary of Wayne Elwood Newson

Wayne Elwood Newson, 78, of London, Ontario, died peacefully at University Hospital in London on June 23, 2026 surrounded by his family.

Wayne was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba on October 27, 1947 to parents Llyod and Maye Newson.  He grew up in Saint Boniface and spent his summers on Falcon Lake, Manitoba.  Wayne graduated from the University of Manitoba with a degree in Economics.

Wayne had a decorated business career, working in the areas of consumer-packaged goods, the dairy industry, printing, and food and beverage spaces – always finding a quick path to a leadership position.  He was a dedicated philanthropist and gave his time and money to many different causes over the course of his life.  These achievements were recognized by her Majesty the Queen of England when he was presented with the Diamond Jubilee Recognition for his “contributions to Canada”.

However, the most important thing to Wayne was his family.  He is survived by his Wife of 52 years, Valerie and their children Mark (Angela) and Todd.  Wayne is also survived by his siblings Colleen and Tim and was predeceased by his sibling Don.  The next generation will live on through his grandchildren Carter, Elijah, and Leyton.  Wayne is also survived by his many nieces and nephews.

He had a warm heart and a stinging wit.  Anyone who had the pleasure to spend time with him would be charmed.  He was always making everyone at ease through his humour and always valued time with family and friends.

Wayne’s immediate family will be having a small service in London, Ontario on June 30, 2026 where he will be set in his final resting place in Woodland Cemetery during a private interment.

In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate a donation in Wayne’s name to the charity of your choice.
