It is with profound sadness that we announce the sudden passing of our dad, partner, Opa, brother, uncle, and friend, Helmut Georg Beh, on July 21, 2026. He passed away surrounded by the love of his family, leaving behind a lifetime of memories that will forever be treasured.

Helmut was born on May 22, 1952, in Ebersbach an der Fils, Germany. As a young boy, he immigrated to Canada with his family, eventually settling in South London, Ontario. It was there that his remarkable work ethic, determination, and adventurous spirit began to take shape—qualities that would define him throughout his life. As a child, he developed a love of the outdoors through camping and canoe outings, experiences that sparked a lifelong appreciation for adventure and nature.

Education was important to Helmut, and he was proud to graduate from the University of Waterloo with an Honours Bachelor of Mathematics and Computer Science before earning his Chartered Accountant designation. He approached both his career and his personal life with the same mindset: work hard, solve the problem, and never be afraid to try something new. If something needed fixing, building, or figuring out, Helmut was already halfway through finding a solution. There truly wasn't a challenge he wouldn't take on. 

But while he worked hard, the people he loved were always at the centre of his world.

He will be deeply missed by his beloved partner, Lorena Thoren, whose love and companionship brought him immense happiness. Together they embraced life's adventures, including an unforgettable road trip to Lorena's homeland of Mexico—a place that quickly became one of Helmut's favourite destinations.

Helmut was an incredibly proud father to Breanne (Daniel), Patrick (Steven), Michael (Elise), and Mercedes (Peter). Of all the roles he held in life, being a dad was one he cherished most. In recent years, becoming Opa to Shea, Mackenzie, Lewis, and Parker brought him a whole new kind of joy. Whether he was making them laugh, playing alongside them, or simply watching them grow, every moment with his grandchildren was precious to him.

Helmut also leaves behind his sisters, Marliese (Ulrich) and Elfriede, along with his nieces and nephews: Michael (Hannah), Martin (Celine), Laura (Flav), Michelle (Kevin), Cathy (Stefan), and their families.

Helmut had a deep love for animals, and some of his family's fondest memories are of his faithful dogs following just a few steps behind him wherever he went. He rarely stayed still for long, always finding a new project to tackle, somewhere to explore, or someone to visit. He loved skiing, sailing, and spending time outdoors.  He was happiest when surrounded by family and friends, sharing a meal, telling stories, and filling the room with his unmistakable laugh—a laugh that will forever echo in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.

His kindness, curiosity, work ethic, and sense of humour left a lasting impression on everyone fortunate enough to know him. Though his passing leaves an immeasurable void, the memories he created will continue to inspire those whose lives he touched.

The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the compassionate staff of the Victoria Hospital Intensive Care Unit for the exceptional care and kindness they provided during Helmut's final days.

A private cremation will take place, with a Celebration of Life to be held at a later date with family and friends.
