Lynda Lawlor posted a condolence

Dear Melissa and Rodney:
It all started back in the day, a group of Newfie boys came to work at 75 Farquhar Street in Guelph Ontario for
Environment Canada, Inland Waters Branch. I don’t think that office knew what hit them, it sure came alive!!! There was Gord Melendy, Fred Pelley, Dave Lawlor, Wayne Young, and Pat Ryan. Soon after they were joined by the boys from New Brunswick:
Paul Jackson, Yvon Goden, and John Doucet. Some of the fellas married girls from back home and some married girls from Ontario. And what fun times we had, They were all good people, young, fun loving and full of life!! They were like a Band of Brothers. And my Dave treasured the friendship he had with Gord.
May you always remember and treasure the good times you had with your Dad. I send my sincere condolences to you, your families, and the entire Melendy Family.
Lynda Lawlor (wife of David Lawlor - deceased)

My husband, Art, (now deceased), and I met Gord in the early 70s when both guys were in the Guelph and District Underwater Association.
Some of the dive trips included weekend camping at Cypress Lake park near Tobermory. In the evening of one of those trips, members of our group gathered around our campfire enjoying a get-together before retiring. At the campsite beside us was a family with a young boy. Gord had a portable radio which he hung on a tree branch so we could have some music. A little later the man from the other site came over to request Gord lower the radio as his son was sleeping. Gord went to the tree and moved the radio to a lower branch and asked the man if that was better. The man broke up laughing then joined our group for some friendship. That was Gord!
Even though we have been out of touch for many years we will always remember Gord.
Condolences to his family, who must miss him dearly.
With fond memories, Beth Hawkes

My condolences to the family on the loss of a great one. I was born and raised in the fair village of Port Stanley. I left in 1981 but have been back countless times to spend time with family and friends. I was fortunate enough to meet Gord through mutual friends and I would like to think we too became friends. I have been to a couple pre Christmas gatherings and a number of kitchen parties over the years. It was in the wee hours of one of those events Gord introduced me to the music of Billie Holliday. Last summer while staying at one of his rentals we shared a birthday dinner as our birthdates are not far apart in August. Gord did not accept the invite until he learned of what I was intending to serve. I am so glad that I took the time to chat with him when I was at Buttonwood earlier this summer. He was bright eyed, sharp and attentive on that day as always. He had a great eye and an ability to employ it. That is evident in his home, his rental properties and in the many renovations and restorations he performed. He certainly lived life on his terms and I have the greatest of respect for him in that regard. Rest in peace my friend and God bless.

Sincere condolences from Barry and Pauline Pester
It’s hard to believe that we met Gord in Jamaica about thirty years ago and enjoyed his company most every year since, telling stories, having a drink and laughing will be sadly missed.
Thanks for the memories Gord

I am very sorry to see that Gord has passed. He really was one of a kind in everything he did. He changed out little neighbourhood in Grimmond's Beach into a beautiful spot or I should say many spots. He redesigned my family cottage and it was like walking into a dream, we had the same vision, dark Douglas fir, and bright yellows that would turn a dreary day into something beautiful.I think being an excellent skier is another talent to add to the list. We as a group had a lot of fun at his place, Reservoir dogs soundtrack playing in the back round, kitchen full of people, always a fun time. You are out of pain now Gord and I will miss you dearly. I am very sorry for his family's loss. Below is a picture of Gord and Ivy tooling around on First Street aka Gordie Ville. He was very proud of you Ivy.
With respect
