Alex Silcock was born in 1935 in Falkirk, Scotland, the only child of Alexander John Silcock and Valentina Cassi. In 1968, Alex and his family packed up their lives in Scotland and moved to Canada. After spending a year in Toronto, they settled in Acton, Ontario, which became home for many years. Alex also spent seven years living in New Jersey with his second wife, Bette.

Alex had a degree in chemistry and enjoyed a long and varied career in the chemical industry. Over the years, he worked as a chemistry teacher, chemical salesman, sales manager, product specialist, and ultimately as president of the Canadian subsidiary of a large German chemical company.

Alex was predeceased by his first wife, Norma, and his second wife, Bette. He was also predeceased by his second-oldest son, Greg, and is survived by his children Rhona (Sal), Mandy (Robb), and Jonathan (Diane), as well as Greg’s wife, Marlene.

He also enjoyed spending time with his 3 step grandchildren, Alex (Sabrina), Victoria (Taylor) and Laura (Conor) as well as their children, Isabella, Ozzie, Sophia and Eliana.

Outside of work and family, Alex enjoyed many hobbies and adventures. He hunted, rode his dirt bike, played golf, and spent many happy hours woodworking. He was curious and active, with a love of learning and trying new things.

After retirement, Alex and Bette embraced the opportunity to travel. Together, they explored many parts of the world, returning to Europe numerous times and travelling as far as Australia and China.

Alex will be remembered for the life he built, the many places he experienced, the work he was proud of, and most of all, the family he leaves behind. His memory will live on through his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and all those who knew and loved him.
