                                 FARRELL, Gordon

                  May 12, 1924 to December 17, 2017

Dad passed away at University Hospital (LHSC) London Ontario on Sunday December 17, 2017 in his 94th year.  He was predeceased in 2004 by his much loved wife (and our mom) June.  He has been a cherished dad and will be missed by his daughters Linda (Fred) Curry of Woodstock and Judy of London.  He will also be missed by his brother Murray Farrell of Woodstock.  Dad was the proud Gramps of Sarah (Mark) Goneau of Sweaburg and Andrew (Crystal) Curry of Woodstock.  He was also very proud to be Great Gramps for his four great grandchildren, Erin, Kaitlyn and Grant Curry of Woodstock and Emily Goneau of Sweaburg.  Dad’s ever present and much loved companion of the past 14 years, “Tinker” will also miss him terribly.

Dad was predeceased by his mother and father, Hiram and Elizabeth Farrell of Woodstock, his brother Lloyd and brother/sisters in law Graham and Donelda Smith of Embro and Janice Farrell of Woodstock.

Dad was born on May 12, 1924 in Woodstock Ontario.  He grew up on the farm outside of Woodstock and attended Princeton Continuing School.  In 1943 he enlisted as an airframe mechanic in the RCAF at the age of 18 yrs.  Following discharge from the airforce in 1946 he attended barbering school and worked as a barber along with Gordon Petrie at the Barber Shop on the south side of King Street West in Ingersoll Ontario.  He met, fell in love and married Mary June Ross on June 1st 1951 and together they built their home on King Street East Ingersoll where they raised their two daughters and lived very happily until mom’s death in February 2004.  During the 1960’s dad left barbering and joined The Mutual Life Assurance Company of Canada and trained and worked with them as a Life Underwriter until his retirement in 1988.  Dad continued living in his home in Ingersoll until the end of 2013.  Mom and Dad both loved their home and took great pride in it, furnishing it with early Canadian pine antiques that provided them with an enjoyable hobby searching out and refinishing the antiques. Mom and Dad also enjoyed a large circle of friends, house parties and dancing to all the great Big Bands of their era.  Dad loved his family, gardens, his pets and nature.  Right up until near his death, being outside and enjoying the blue skies, clouds, birds, trees and well groomed gardens brought a smile to his face and pleasure to his life.  People who met dad over the years often spoke to us of his wonderful dry sense of humour and described him as a “gentleman’s gentleman”.

A service will be held to celebrate dad’s life at 1100 hrs. Saturday December 30, 2017 at St. Paul’s Presbyterian Church, 56 Thames Street South, Ingersoll, Ontario.  Visitation will be held at the church one hour immediately prior to the service.  Online thoughts and condolences may be left at www.woodlandcemetery.on.ca.  In lieu of flowers please consider memorial donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, Canadian Cancer Society or St. Paul’s Presbyterian Church Ingersoll Ontario.
