Obituary of Mary Adlington

Mary Adlington (nee Copeland)
June 7, 1922 - December 31, 2017

Mary died peacefully with family by her side, in the comfort of her home, in her 96th year.

Recently predeceased by her loving husband of 75 years, Al (09/30/17).  Survived by her children Ken (Michele), Marg Camirand (Albert), and Ian (Cindy Gentle); five grandchildren Kelly (Alan), Aaron (Branka), Sarah, Chris, and Laura (Taubin); and seven great grandchildren Brennan, Noah, Ellen, Grace, William, Delilah, and Kate. The eldest of 13 children, she is survived by her brother John in Scotland.

In 1944, Mary was one of the first war brides to emigrate from Scotland aboard the Ile de France.  Although she embraced Canada as her new home, she never lost her love of Scotland.  She was proud of her home, was a fabulous cook, and set a beautiful table.  Mary loved fashion and shopping for the latest looks.  She was an avid florist and spent much time tending to her flowers.  She was full of creativity which was reflected in her passion for embroidery and years of membership with the Canadian Embroiderers Guild, London Chapter.  She leaves behind many lovely stitcheries for her family to enjoy.

Mary delighted in family gatherings, had a quick wit, and would happily sing or play games with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Though her family will miss her sorely, they take comfort in the fact that she is reunited with the love of her life.

The family would like to thank her caregivers, Janet and Merveille, for their compassionate care.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Alzheimer's Society.

Cremation has taken place, as per her request. A private celebration of her life will occur in the warmth of the spring... because she never embraced Canadian winters!  Online condolences may be left at www.woodlandcemetery.on.ca.
