Obituary of Gary A. Simpson

Passed away peacefully on Monday October 29th, 2018 at St Joseph’s Hospice in his 80th year surrounded by family. Predeceased by his father (Van) and mother (Ada) and first wife (Eileen). Survived by the love of his life, wife Anne (nee Lacasse), his daughter Laura (Marc), daughter Maureen, son Van (Trina), and step-son Travis (Claire). Brother to Sharon Lessard (Brian). Dear grandfather to Brett (Sara), Van Adam, Erin (Joe), Tyler, Brooke, Audrey, and Gavin. Proud great grand-father to Patrick.

Gary was born and raised in Port Loring, Ontario and moved around Northern Ontario as a boy, finally settling in Espanola Ontario. He loved the wilderness and spent most of his life enjoying the lakes and forests of the north. As a young man he joined the air force and travelled the world, finally settling back in Northern Ontario and raising a family. A graduate of Laurentian University Commerce program, Gary worked the balance of his career with Revenue Canada before retiring in 1998. He enjoyed retirement by travelling the world with Anne and living the simpler life in the North, before moving to London in 2013, where he and Anne played the links of Riverbend and enjoyed the city life. Gary was exceptionally proud of his children and grandchildren, following their sports and school endeavors with great pride.

The family would like to extend profound thanks to the staff at St Joseph’s Hospice, a true gem to the city of London. There are so many people to thank and acknowledge, including Anne’s large family scattered around Ontario who provided incredible support during recent weeks. The family is having a private celebration of life for Gary, and in lieu of flowers please consider donations to St Joseph’s Hospice.
