Obituary of Ken Alderson

ALDERSON, KENDRICK (KEN)

Today we said goodbye to an amazing husband, dad, and grandpa.  Kendrick (Ken) Alderson passed away on Sunday, December 9th, 2018 in his 83rd year at University Hospital.  We were so glad to be able to celebrate his 82nd birthday with him, three days prior to his passing.  Ken truly loved life.  He was an avid traveller, spending many of his younger years working in the mines in Australia and travelling the world.  He came to Canada on one of his trips abroad.  While he initially thought this would only be a brief trip, it actually became his home as he met our mom at a dance and never used that plane ticket back to Australia!  Although many times, he often said to our mom, “We really should have moved to Australia as I could do without these cold winters!”  Ken loved the sun and heat. On those sweltering, hot summer days when many people would be rushing inside to get into some air conditioning, Ken would be basking in the sun, loving every minute of it!  Ken also loved to golf.  Even through retirement, he would be one of the first golfers on the course.  He truly enjoyed the game and sport.  Ken leaves behind his loving wife of 46 years, Connie, along with his two daughters, Allison (Steve) and Shannon (Scott).  Ken was also a proud and active grandpa to Luke, Elyssa, and Ava, attending many hockey games, soccer matches, and horse shows.  We will miss him very much, but we know he will be with us every step of the way in our life journey.  We wish to thank the 6th floor nursing team at University Hospital, Dr. Scott Strum and medical team, and dietitians Joanne and Helen, for their special care…it meant a lot.  In keeping with Ken’s wishes, cremation has taken place and no formal services will be held.  Donations in Ken’s memory can be made to Ronald McDonald House Charities Southwestern Ontario.
