Obituary of Barbara Anne Brocklebank
At her home at Arbor Trace in London following a brief illness and long battle with cancer, Barbara Anne Brocklebank passed from this life on Monday, January 1, 2018 at the age of 78. Much loved mother of Lorelei Fisher (Bruce) of London, Luanne Ollivier (David Merrifield) and family of Granton, London and Iowa, dear sister of Derwyn Taylor (Ann) and family of Walkerton. Raised in Walkerton but having lived in London most her adult life, Mom taught at Fanshawe College for 30 years in the General Studies area, but her fondest memories were the years she spent teaching in the English as a Second Language program. Following retirement she embraced her love of dance and music, driving her beloved mustang and finally relaxing on the back deck watching the urban wildlife. At Mom’s request, there will be no funeral and no fuss. Cremation has taken place. A private family service will be held in the spring at Douglas Hill Cemetery near Walkerton where her ashes will be interred alongside her parents and grandparents. A thank you must be said to those who helped to make Mom’s last couple of years easier; the caring staff at Arbor Trace Alzheimer Special Care Centre who became like extended family to her, St. Elizabeth palliative care nurses Laurine, Yvan and Carrie, Laura Waller N.P., Dr. Ferner , the London Regional Cancer Centre staff and LHSC Victoria Campus 7th floor staff where some very difficult months were spent. Thank you also to Carolyn and staff at Woodland Cemetery. As expressions of sympathy, donations may be made to Salthaven Wildlife Rehabilitation and Education Centre.
