Stella Woodhouse

Obituary of Stella Mavis Woodhouse

Born February 2nd 1937 and passing July 18th 2022 after a brief fight with cancer.

Stella was always a happy go lucky person who was always ready to go with the flow when figuring out life’s challenge.  Growing up in England during the war she learned to find the best out of tough times. She married John Woodhouse and they moved to Canada to build a better life for themselves.  During the time Stella had two children which have survived her, Trevor and Graeme Woodhouse.  Stella worked part time in the young children days in Canada to provide the fun money for the family.  When John passed, Stella entered a new chapter in her life.  Instead of sitting around waiting to see what was next, Stella moved to London, Ontario, took some computer courses and started her career as a receptionist at a lawyer’s firm.  She met a fantastic group of people many of whom supported her to the very end.   Through these new friends Stella was involved as a volunteer with the London Orchestra and at the Alzheimer’s  Society.  As a member of St. James Westminster church Stella volunteered in the fundraising activities, collecting items for donation.  Stella derived great pleasure from her involvement with the local PEO (Philanthropic Educational Organization) .  The group that may define Stella the best in the later part of her life were the Happy Hoofers, a tap dancing group of ladies who would visit various events and retirements homes to provide some dancing entertainment.

An avid traveler Stella enjoyed visiting family or discovering new places.  Whether in Canada, Europe, Mexico or China Stella would find a way to enjoy the moment.  Her family in England, especially her sisters Norah Wretham and Brenda Jones with miss her with great fondness.

Stella’s grandchildren Kendra Woodhouse and Ian Woodhouse Acuna saw their Nana as a teacher of proper English, etiquette, and life lessons ( whether they wanted it or not ).

Stella’s infectious smile, positive attitude, and easy-going manner will be missed by those who knew her.  She always said two things could happen, it can get better or it can get worse. No need to get concerned before knowing which way it will go.  Stella held on to that attitude to the very end.

Stella’s Celebration of Life will be a private event at the Idlewyld Spa and Inn on August 9th 2022 where Stella stories, laughter and love will reflect the life that Stella lived.

Donations can be made to the Alzheimer’s  Society
