I have just found out about Patrick's untimely passing in the most recent edition of the Acadia Bulletin. I was a roommate of Pat's at Acadia for one year, and while we did lose contact with each other, Patrick's chosen vocation and the kindness and concern that he showed to others comes as no surprise to me.
May you experience God's hand and his blessings on you as you navigate life without Patrick.

I was Patrick's patient at LHSC. I wad trying to find him for help. Patrick was a genius and came for home visits to counsel me. He gave me an understanding at a genius level. I had an addicted dying son whom has passed. I'm so saddened to hear Patrick's this wonderful. Kind psychologist has passed. I feel he is unreplaceable. .

Sadly just hearing of this now….. our families were so close growing up together. The Hernon’s send much love and have deep sorrow over this! Pat was an amazing man, someone to look up to, an inspiration for sure!

My condolences to the family. I knew Pat at St Pats. He was very smart, self-deprecating, and really interested in what you had to say, as well as being very funny. It appears that those attributes worked in his favour as he had what looks like a great career helping people. A real loss...

I was so very sorry to learn about Patrick's devastating diagnosis last year and his recent passing. A light has gone out of the world, and a bright one it was.
I feel very grateful to have had the good fortune of working with Patrick and the amazing team at the Geriatric Mental Health Program for seven wonderful years. Patrick was someone who gave himself heart and soul to everything he did; his commitment to his work, his devotion to his family, and his extensive community endeavors. He will be greatly missed.
It is said that some lives are like a song, every note rare and precious, and we feel lucky to have heard the music. That was Patrick.

I am so sorry to hear of Patrick’s passing. I have worked with him on various committees including the Age Friendly London Network. He was invaluable to me with lending his expertise to our Lean on Me training program. He had great presentation skills, enhanced by his sense of humour! He was always there for me when I needed advice on navigating the mental health or elder abuse resources for our seniors. He was kind, caring, compassionate, would never say no to any request for his help. We also had our children attending St Mary’s together. (My daughter Kaitlyn Regan attended with Jeffrey) He was a good friend who I will miss. My condolences to all the family.

I was so sorry to hear the news of Patrick's passing. My sincere condolences to his family at this very difficult time. I had the privilege of working with Patrick for many years on numerous community committees and initiatives. He was always willing to do more than his share and certainly made London a better and more compassionate place to live. He will be greatly missed.

Patrick was a leader in Age Friendly London from the very beginning and he served as a Working Group Chair and advocate. It was always a pleasure working with Patrick. He was kind, compassionate, and very well-respected in the community. He gave so much of his time and expertise to supporting the most vulnerable older adults. We will all miss Patrick's warm smile and laugh. He brightened every gathering and he made people feel welcomed and respected. Patrick will be greatly missed and we will all remember him as a wonderful man who made our community better.

I first met Patrick when I was accompanying my husband to a social event put on through his work. At the time Tony and I and our three school age children were new to London and my role was to support them as we all settled into our new lives in London. Patrick knew I was a Social Worker and saw the potential in me. He invited me to volunteer on a committee and nurtured my getting back into my Social Work career. Over the years when I would see him at meetings or events he never failed to greet me warmly and ask about Tony and the kids. He knew what was important in life - such a kind and generous spirit! I met Patrick when I volunteered for the Age Friendly Working Group on Community Supports and Health Services in 2017. What a lovely man and wonderful group facilitator. Many of the tributes here mention the twinkle in his eye and his infectious laugh and that is the memory that I have as well. My deepest sympathy to his family and friends. But what a wonderful legacy - he truly led a meaningful life.

We were so sorry to hear of Patrick's serious illness and now of his passing . Patrick and I worked closely together for 25 years in the field of geriatric mental health . He was a highly valued team member and had a lead role in many initiatives .I admired how he supported Janice and their children over the years .I often described him as my Right Hand Man - notwithstanding that most of the permanent clinic staff were female ! On behalf of the North York Elder Abuse Network we send our thoughts to the family. I attended the Elder Abuse Prevention Network meetings where I would see Patrick online always empathic to everyone he spoke to, provided excellent information, ideas, thoughts to other network members with regards to Elder Abuse Prevention. He will be missed by all those that knew him. So sorry for your loss.
This is a lovely poem that I first found in an old church in a country village in England many years ago.
This poem is often read at funerals. The author, Henry Scott-Holland (1847 - 1918), a priest at St. Paul's Cathedral of London, did not intend it as a poem, it was actually delivered as part of a sermon in 1910. The sermon, titled, "Death the King of Terrors" was preached while the body of King Edward VII was lying in state at Westminster.

Dear Janice and family,
I had the pleasure and honour of working with Patrick over the past eight years, both in my role as Director of the School of Social Work at King's and as President of the Ontario Association of Social Workers (OASW). Patrick's commitment to social work education through his teaching and mentoring of students and to our profession through his work on the OASW Board Executive was unparalleled. His ability to balance deep reflection and sage advice with his wonderful sense of humour (he had a laugh and smile that could light up an entire room), made even the most challenging of work seem enjoyable. He touched so many lives over many years, truly exemplifying the saying, "a life well-lived". It was wonderful to meet you and many members of your family this past summer when we were able to recognize Patrick for his many contributions to Social Work. My prayers and thoughts are with you.

I had the pleasure of working with Patrick through community-based committees working to create a safe and healthy community for seniors. He always added a spark of energy to any committee he was on and brought a wealth of insights and compassion to his work. I will always remember the twinkle in his eye and his sense of humour. I am so sorry to hear of Patrick's death. What a loss to the London Middlesex community! I met Patrick some year's ago, through joint work between Elder Abuse Elgin and Elder Abuse London Middlesex. I always valued Pat's sage advise, learned through his decades of interactions with seniors, both in his work, and in his leadership of the Elder Abuse network in London/Middlesex. Pat could be counted on to offer strategic ideas, that helped move along some very important work helping prevent elder abuse in our local communities, and helping to improve supports offered to those seniors being abused. His presence will be missed so very much at numerous tables across the area.
