Obituary of Arthur Legiehn

On Saturday July 29th, 2023, at the age of 97, Arthur Legiehn passed away peacefully into the presence of the Lord at LHSC, University Hospital.

Beloved husband of the late Gisela (nee Noss) and loving father of Ursula Phinnemore (Hal), Fred Legiehn (Wendy), Heidi Street (Gordon) and Ernie Legiehn (Marilyn). 

Grandfather of 14 and great grandfather of 40.

Loved brother of the late Ernst, late Werner (Birgit), Siegfried, late Hans Gunter, Hartmut (Christa) Adelheid (late Hartmut) and Friedbert.

Art immigrated to Canada from Germany in 1958 with his wife and four children. 

He immediately found work and began a wonderful adventure of building a full life, connecting

to church and community.   His ambition and entrepreneurial passion resulted in the establishment of several successful business ventures.  Arthur was a multi-talented person.  He developed several hobbies including watercolour art, piano and golf.  In his retirement years he designed and built a miniature train set.

 

He loved his wife Gisela, of 70 years, dearly.

 

Art loved his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren putting them at the centre of his life.

Each have a fond and unique memory of his love and care for them at an individual level.

 

Art was known for his wit and humour, including his pithy sayings and wisdom.

He was known for his interest in physics and mechanical things and his ability to fix the unfixable.

 

Arthur will be remembered as a man of faith in God who lived out the Christian life to its fullest.  He spent much of his time helping others to have a better life.  He also prayed daily for each of his family members.  He has taught all of us through his actions to highly value family life and practically help those around us.

 

He has built a legacy that will be continued for generations.
