George Stickley

Obituary of George Edward Stickley

In the early hours of the morning of November 19th, 2023, George Edward Deardon Stickley passed away in his 69th year, at home with his wife Heather and dog Rose at his side.

George will be greatly missed by Heather, his best friend and wife of 47 years. He will always be remembered by his sister Susan Harris (Stickley), nephew Oliver Harris, niece Samantha Harris, niece Emma Harris, great niece Lilly, great nephew Alfie, cousins Janet, Ian, Kelly and Megan Rodger, Carol and Bob Temple, Brenda Anger, and long time friends Ed and Ruth Murphy, Catja Piesche, Gene Oswald, and Sharon, Bill, and Glenda Hayward.

Teaching was something that George enjoyed from the age of 17 when he taught First Aid to factory workers. He had a long career teaching high school English, History and Philosophy. When not teaching, George loved to read, cook fantastic meals and grow Bonsai trees. During the summers and after he retired much time was spent camping, hiking and canoeing with Heather.

In the last few years of his life when his mobility was severely limited, George enjoyed listening to a great variety of music, guiding Heather through his recipes and keeping in touch with friends and relatives on his computer.

Many thanks to all our friends and neighbours for their help and support. Also, much appreciation for the care the doctors, nurses and PSWs, OT, PT, wound care nurses, gave to George, both at LHSC and at home. Thank you Dr. Shoesmith for finding the diagnosis and for your ongoing support. Dr. Hamilton and his Palliative Home care team made a huge difference in the comfort and dignity that George received in his last few weeks.

George has requested no funeral. In lieu of flowers, consider donations to the SPCA or the Food Bank.
