Obituary of Gertrude Ruth Heath
Peacefully on Thursday, March 21, 2024 in her 91st year. Gertrude leaves behind her beautiful cat “Georgette”. Predeceased by her brother Roy and sisters Sheelah, Nelda and Harriet. She will be sadly missed by many nieces and nephews and friends.
Gert was born in London, Ontario to Leslie Heath and Ruth (Lucas). She spent most of her early years in London and Parkhill. Gert attended Toronto East General nursing school and subsequently worked in various hospitals in the Toronto area.
Gertrude loved art and animals. As a young woman, Gertrude spent time in New York City nursing and attended the New York School of Art. She had many wonderful memories of this time.
Gertrude moved back to London in early 1980’s, to care for her ailing mother. During her time in London, she was a staunch advocate for many animal rescue groups and has given much time to foster cats over the years. Gertie will be fondly remembered by the dogs and cats and their families that she so diligently cared for in her pet sitting days.
Gert’s passion was to care for rescued animals and she developed many friendships because of that. The family wishes to thank her friends who checked up on her at home and also the wonderful staff at Parkwood hospital, who gave her amazing care for the last couple of months of her life. Private funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Woodland Cemetery. As per Gertrude’s wishes, there will be no service and cremation has taken place. Those wishing to make a donation in memory of Gertrude, are asked to consider Animal Alert, or Salvation Army, or St. John’s Ambulance Therapy Dogs.
