Obituary of Marie Martus

It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Marie Martus (nee Richardson) at the age of 91, on May 30, 2024 surrounded by her loving family.

Beloved wife of 71 years to Robert (Bud), loving mom to Julie Tannahill, Gail Martus, Christine Gibbings, Bob Martus and Cindy Gray (John). Cherished nana to Kerrie Marcy, Lindsay Sommise (Cory), Shane Burke (Stephanie), Troy Gibbings (Emily) and Aaron Gibbings (Dandy). Marie will also be dearly missed by her 10 great grandchildren.

Predeceased by sons-in-law Paul Tannahill (2011) and Mike Gibbings (2023), sisters Ida Ord (2020), Maureen Rae (2022) and sister-in-law Eileen Odegaard (2022).

Marie was born in Belfast, Northern Ireland and emigrated to Toronto, Ontario at the age of 4, where she eventually met and married the love of her life, Bud. Bud and Marie moved to Sarnia where they raised their children. Marie had a talent for china painting, loved singing her favourite songs, enjoyed gardening and reading in her spare time. Later in life, Marie became licenced as an insurance broker, and with Bud, opened their own insurance brokerage.

The family would like to thank the staff at Elmwood Place LTC, London for taking such good care of Marie while she was a resident there.

Cremation has taken place and a private service will be held at Woodland Cemetery, London, Ontario.
