Obituary of Bonnie Alice Hall
Bonnie Alice Hall, a beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away suddenly on December 15, 2024, at the age of 77. Born on January 11, 1947, in Shilo, Manitoba. Bonnie's life was a testament to her unwavering spirit, compassion, friendship and dedication to her family and community.
Bonnie was the cherished daughter of William Thorpe and Lillian (Swain) Thorpe. She is pre-deceased by her parents and her dear niece, Krista (Burns) St. Louis. Bonnie leaves behind a loving family who will miss her dearly, including her son David, daughter-in-law Patricia, her cherished granddaughters Madeline, and Natalie; as well as her loving sister Carol Burns, brother-in-law Tom Burns, niece Jennifer Burns (Gaetan Lemieux), nephew Daniel Burns and her beloved cousins, especially Johnette Brock and Shirley Fraser, Karran Thorpe (Leslie Vaala) and dear friends Ellen and Carol.
Nursing and education were cornerstones of Bonnie’s life. In 1968 she graduated from the McKellar Hospital School of Nursing, where she earned her RN. Bonnie then earned a BScN from the University of Ottawa followed by a MScN from the University of Western Ontario. Her career as a nurse spanned five decades touching the lives of many. Roles throughout her career included Parkwood Hospital in London, geriatric nurse specialist at various institutions in Ottawa, an Outreach Consultant for the College of Nurses of Ontario, and an adjunct professor at University of Ottawa.
In her personal life, Bonnie was a vibrant and passionate individual. An avid golfer, she spent many joyful days on the golf course, honing her skills and enjoying the camaraderie of fellow players. She loved playing cribbage, quilting, knitting, and hiking. A true nature enthusiast, Bonnie cherished the summers spent on Big Rideau Lake, where she found peace and inspiration in the beauty of the outdoors.
After her retirement, she embraced a spirit of adventure, traveling the world and creating cherished memories in places far and wide. She also served her community by volunteering with Maycourt Club of London and Merrymount London and was active in cooking clubs, sewing and quilting clubs and quilting for “Quilts of Valour,” with lots of visits to the local Thai restaurant.
Bonnie held a special place in her heart for her grand-daughters, Madeline and Natalie. As a proud grandmother, she played an invaluable role in their lives, encouraging them to pursue their hobbies and studies with enthusiasm and support.
As we remember Bonnie, we will always carry with us the warmth of her smile, her unwavering dedication to her family, friends and community. Her legacy will live on in the countless lives she touched throughout her life.
In lieu of flowers, the family encourages donations in Bonnie's memory to Maycourt - Maycourtlondon.ca, an organization that encapsulates her spirit of giving and her commitment to community service.
Bonnie will be deeply missed, but her memory will forever be etched in our hearts.
