Maureen made a lasting impression on me. I met her when I started working at Victoria hospital as a nurse. She was the first person who made me feel welcome. She was hilarious and had me laughing the moment I met her. She invited me to have breakfast after a night shift so we went across the street to Cora’s and I continued to laugh. She was just so easy to be around and I miss her. I will never forget the kindness that she showed to me ❤️

Dear Tom and Family,
I was so saddened to just hear, today, of Maureen's passing. Unfortunately, I haven't seen her in many years as I've been teaching overseas since '83. But we had reconnected on Fb and it was lovely to hear from her now and again.
I was just thinking of her the other day.
I remember at St. Pat's, one Dress Up Day, she loaned me a blue skirt suit that I still remember so clearly. I must've been in Grade 9 or 10 and she was four years older; she chummed (as my mom would say) with my sister, Bev. I felt so grown up in it.
I still remember her smiling face, quick wit, great sense of humour, her laughter and her love of fun.
The obit was lovely and kudos for your honesty. My prayers and thoughts, for peace and strength, are with all of you,
Love and cyberhugs, from Hong Kong.

I was so sorry to learn of Maureen’s passing today... She was quite a character and always so much fun to work with on GYN. We were almost always laughing when we worked together with her pranks and constant jokes. Always making light of adversity for her patients which helped their recovery or provided comfort in desperate times.
I hope you Rest In Peace as you deserve Maureen xoxoxo

Tom and Family,
What a beautifully written obituary honouring both Maureen's incredible spirit and the struggles that she experienced. Losing a sister to suicide myself, I know the incredible tsunami of grief you may be experiencing. I hope you can follow the eloquent Irish Proverb you included and fill the void with remembered joy. Don't let Maureen's death define her; honour and remember the 65 years and the wonderful moments you had with her.
Much love and strength to all of you,
Tana

I also worked with Maureen for several years and have the fondest memories. She was a passionate, dedicated and indeed generous nurse and had an often dry sense of humor. Every now and then she still pops up in my memory and I have a chuckle.
It fills me with great sadness when I imagine how much she must have suffered.
Sending much love and hugs to her family, whom she talked about a lot...especially her Dad!!

Thank you for your courageous , honest obituary. It will help others understand mental illness is something we must talk about openly and without shame if we are ever to view illness of the brain without stigma. Having lost our son through mental illness I have some understanding of the pain you feel. Please accept my heartfelt condolences for your lose.

Looking in the paper for another person in the obituary section I saw Maureen's obit. I do not know Maureen at all but I do believe that she is a woman who I could develop a strong friendship with had we met. I understand that she was a nurse which in my opinion means that she was a caring and dedicated person.
I too have suffered depression and I can understand what she has undergone for many years. I hope her loved ones can also understand this unbearable affliction and the toll it takes on those are unlucky enough to be inflicted with it. I'm sure that she fought as hard as she could and she had no desire to hurt those who were close to her. I pray that you all forgive her and remember her for the person that she was.
