Obituary of Shirley Marie Thorne

Shirley Marie Thorne

May 19, 1940 – July 27, 2019

Peacefully on Saturday, July 27, 2019, Mom slipped away to join Dad, her brothers David (2017) and Gordon (1963), and her sister Edie (2016); her earthly journey complete.  She is predeceased by her husband Norman (Aug 1, 2008), and her parents Gertrude Harlton and Gordon (Enid) Arbo.

She is survived by her 5 children who she lived her life for, and who loved her dearly; Steve (Terri), Brenda, both of London, Wendy (Gary) of Port Franks, Greg (Stacey) and Cindy-Leigh (Jeff) both of Woodstock. Also survived by her much-loved grandchildren Jen Thorne, Steven Thorne, Andrea (& B.) Wrauley, Amanda (Adam) McFarlane, Ashley Misson-Thorne (Jonnie), Jared Thorne and Brielle Thorne (Tyler).  She is also survived by 3 beautiful great-grandchildren Ayla May Hansen, Findley Boyce McFarlane and Savannah Lynn Cockman.  She will be dearly missed by her sister Bernice Mason of Fredericton, New Brunswick, her sister Marilyn Lafortune of Penticton, British Columbia, her brother Reg (Sharron) Adams of lower Cambridge, New Brunswick and her brother David Lahue of Pennsboro, West Virginia, as well as sisters-in-law Barb (Thorne) Rutherford and Barb (Brennan) Thorne of London, Sally Arbo of Smiths Falls, Raymond Legere of Saint John, New Brunswick, and many nieces and nephews.

Mom resided at Country Terrace Nursing Home in Komoka for the past 2 years, received wonderful care from the staff, and shared a loving friendship with her roommate Marie Brownscombe.  They became fast friends and took great care of each other. Their room was known as the “Party Room” with lots of fun and laughter shared with the staff and both families.  The two of them were a blessing for all of us.  Mom never complained about her health.  She took each day as it came and made the best of every moment.  On Thursday, July 25th, she rallied with her family and it was her last gift to us.  She was the most amazing Mother and Grandmother, and the kindest friend to everyone she met.  She is loved beyond measure and will be terribly missed by those whose lives she touched.

Please join us in celebration of Mom’s life on Saturday, August 3, 2019, from 1 to 4 pm, at the Royal Canadian Legion – Victory Branch, 311 Oakland Ave, London, Ontario.  A private family inurnment at Woodland Cemetery in London will take place.
