Obituary of Florence Stonehill
Stonehill, Betty – On April 24, 2020, Betty (Florence Elizabeth) died peacefully at Arbor Trace, London Ontario. Predeceased by her husband Bert, Betty died on the day that would have been their 66th wedding anniversary. Betty was primary care giver for her husband for over 20 years before her health began to fail and together they moved into Arbor Trace, a memory care centre in London.
Despite the travel and visiting covid restrictions, her children, Julianne Barlow, Susan Williams and Wil Stonehill were able to virtually visit the day she died. We are very grateful that Robin Osmar, the eldest child was able to be with Betty in person that day. Our appreciation goes to the staff at Arbor Trace who cared for both Dad and Mom with respect and compassion.
Betty was 90 years of age at the time of her passing. During her life, Betty was known for her love of singing, her many years of volunteer service at Church of the Redeemer Anglican, and her more than 25 years of volunteering every week at Knollwood Park elementary school. She enjoyed bell ringing with a 50 plus group, singing anytime she could and took up watercolour painting and colouring in later years.
Mother, Grandmother and Great Grandmother (GG), Betty will be missed by her children, their spouses, her grandchildren and her great grandchildren, other family, longtime neighbours and friends.
Due to Covid 19 travel restrictions, a memorial service was delayed until August 25, 2020 when her children and their immediate families gathered to say goodbye and to mourn. In a quiet clearing in the woods, with masks and social distancing, we sang Mom’s favourite hymns, an anthem she chose, prayed and celebrated God’s promises together. May she rest in peace
Memorial donations to the Alzheimer Society London and Middlesex would be welcomed.
