What to say about uncle Pete? I never spent as much time with you all as I would have liked. Geography has always been against us. But when ever we spent time together it always felt like there had been no time between us at all. I'll remember the jokes, I'll remember how you always remembered to tease me about my football (soccer?) team - the perennial underachievers, you always wanted to know how the kids were getting on and you were always the big, little brother to my mum. I remember how you, Kelly, Rory and Devin made it over to Blighty for my wedding and how you always included us in your big days too. Most vivid in my mind when I think back was the time that Emily and I invaded your home with the kids in tow in 2016. I've been watching back the videos of us all larking about in your pool and relaxing in your kitchen as you and Kelly cooked up a feast. Always so much fun, always relaxed and laughing and always there. Thanks Uncle Pete, you will be and you are much missed. xx

I first met Peter sometime in the 1980s when he was a parks planner in Thunder Bay. Over the years, I always found Peter to be a keen advocate for Ontario Parks. When he eventually re-located to London, my dealings with Peter regarded Friends groups, cultural heritage protection, tourism promotion, marketing and corporate partnerships. He was an unflinching supporter of all of these initiatives. His steadfast leadership during the occupation of Ipperwash Provincial Park was inspiring to all of us in Main Office. Peter Sturdy was a skillful, thoughtful and steadfast leader.

Please accept my sincere condolences to Peter’s family and close friends. I too remember Peter from the Southwest MNR Days. Bob commented on Peter’s beloved Apple Mac. We had so much fun learning a whole set of new things that a computer could do and generate. This memory made me smile, I can picture him in his office now, always with a smile and time for a chat. We had fun at our curling bonspiels and baseball games, Rest In Peace Peter...you did live life to its fullest and Parks Ontario and MNR will always remember your contributions to their programs and your genuine caring.

I first met Pete in person on September 11, 2001 at the Wortley Roadhouse. We were all glued to the TV screens and the bar was full of a blue haze as you were still allowed to smoke indoors at that time. Even Pete was contributing back in that day.
Pete will forever be remembered by his incredible culinary expertise for which I was most fortunate to be on the receiving end of. There was magic in the kitchen when Pete and Kelly embarked on a food project. I am not sure what I loved more, the 3 day Tomato Tarte Tatin, or the simple ciabatta oven-baked bread crisps. It really did not matter as Pete could make a Kraft Cheese Slice become a gourmet masterpiece.
Not only did Pete excel in the kitchen, he was so willing to share his secret recipes and took the time to guide me through many cooking lessons. I have nearly mastered the ‘Pastry’!! He was so giving of his time to share his craft.
I had no idea what a wonderful friendship we would form over the years, but I will be forever thankful for the laughs, the parties, the excursions, the trip over the pond and of course the everyday random texts.
Pete you will be in my thoughts everyday and never forgotten. Please keep grinning down on us as we will do the same each time we talk about you.
Rest In Peace my friend, it was a long road.

Pete, I’ve never forgotten the quote from Ernie Banks you offered in my retirement tribute. “The measure of a man is in the lives he touched.” The reason I remembered it so well is that it applies so much to you. You were always so very generous to mentor others and share your skill and knowledge. And, no one loved a good time or a new adventure than you.
Thanks for your friendship, good times and great food.

I want to offer my condolences to Kelly and all Peter's family and friends.
I first met Peter about 1976 when I became the site planner for provincial parks in the old Southwest Region. I visited the Chatham District Office and met him in his role (I think) as a contract park planner working on the Pinery Management Plan. A man with the bushy beard, which was sort of mandatory for park planners at that time.
We reconnected in the mid-1980s when he moved from Thunder Bay to London to become the Southwest Region Parks Coordinator, after having earned kudos coordinating a pesticide spraying project in the North Central Region. Peter brought with him a beloved Apple Macintosh - something we hadn't seen in the SW Region. He was a devil for spreadsheets!
From that time forward we worked together in various roles culminating in about 13 years together as members of the Ontario Parks Management Team. Peter was always sincere, dedicated, practical and fair - a pleasure to work with during the many challenges the organization faced. I know how committed he was to the people he worked with, always looking after their interests as much as possible. Peter and Kelly hosted the Ontario Parks Management Team at their condo in London in the fall of 2008 where, not surprisingly, curry was on the menu. I remember that occasion fondly, as well as the Ontario Parks visual identity on Peter's sports car.
It seemed appropriate that we shared a retirement dinner in Peterborough when we both retired at the end of 2008.
Inexplicably, Peter enjoyed American football and was a Chicago Bears fan. This was a lonely role, as the Bears were usually lousy. I had a much easier time of it: having been born in Pittsburgh I had an excuse for being a Steelers fan. We often exchanged football comments our respective teams won ( often for the Steelers) or lost (often for the Bears).

To Peter,
Oups… you left us so quickly, once you decided that it was time for your next big trip!!!
I have known you for just less than two years… but so intensive and humorous! Always… when shopping in Mauritius, packing your luggage or cooking in Lausanne, planning the video making in Mauritius, controlling the technical instructions of whatever and, of course, and most important: supervising the BBQ wherever!!!
It was a real pleasure to meet you and have being able to share stories, small adventures, exotic meals, beautiful landscapes, humor as well as more personal feelings. The world will be different without you…
My deepest condolences to your dear wife Kelly, a wonderful friend too, to your sons and their partner, the famous Charley and the cat!

Peter was my little brother, the only person in the world with whom I shared memories of our remarkable childhood and parents. When he was 4 and I was 5 we went to live and travel in Pakistan, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka where, amongst many other experiences, Peter picked up his lifelong love of curry. We also stayed with family in New Zealand, travelling across the world in passenger liners. Later, at ages 10 and 11, we went to boarding schools in England, where he became the ‘bigger’ brother, always protective of me, a role he kept throughout life. Later he joined our parents in Canada , as a young teenager, while I had to finish school in England. We were together again when we both went to university in Canada, in Saskatchewan. Although we then lived apart, on opposite sides of the world, me in England, he in Canada, we made efforts to spend time together, especially in recent years.
He never stopped being my little brother, though bigger than me, in the way he enjoyed teasing me and playing practical jokes. I have happy memories of time together, cooking, eating out, exploring, sharing music, and going for (terrifying but exciting) outings in the TR6.
He was a brother whose advice I valued, in whom I could easily confide, and with whom I shared memories and much laughter.
I thank Kelly, Rory and Devin, as well as Sara, Sean and Beth for their love and support throughout, and send them mine.

We met Peter not so long ago, however such an admirable man will remain for a long time in our memories. We shared stories, meals, successful & unsuccessful fishing expeditions in Mauritius and discovered part of Bern in Switzerland ! We are sorry to see you leave for your next adventure but we are very happy that we shared a few adventures together down here.

I first met Peter in 1980 when I started working for MNR Lands/Parks in Thunder Bay. We always had good conversations and a lot of laughs. When I heard Peter was retiring, it happened to be a year we were having one of our Ontario Parks' conferences at Geneva Park. Even though I was on a self-funded leave at the time, I made a point of attending the conference just so I could visit with Peter again and wish him well as he started the next chapter in his life. We had a great reunion - reminiscing, laughing and having dinner together. I will always remember Peter fondly and will never forget his smile.
My deepest condolences to his family.

My mother, Maureen, is Peter's cousin on his mother's side. Families sometimes lose touch with cousins and second and third cousins etc. but I'm privileged to have known Peter as we are a close family and keep in contact across the miles. We are in the UK and will always have fond memories of Peter and Kelly visiting to meet up with us all. Our last recent meet was in a lovely pub in Brockenhurst in the New Forest and we had a good turn out of cousins and kids! It was always a pleasure to see Peter and Kelly and I know we all appreciated them making the effort to see us.
On one meet up which happened to be in my house, I remember Peter telling me about his culinary expertise and how he had won an award for his pastry, an ingredient of which was vodka (I think!) I was in awe, what a character!
I'm posting a picture of Peter and Maureen taken at Peter's parents' wedding anniversary celebrations, another great family get together.
Sending love to Kelly and family.

Dear Kelly,
My heartfelt condolences to you and all of Peter's family. I never had the pleasure of meeting Peter but feel that I knew him through you and others who loved and admired him. I hope that knowing that so many people are thinking of both of you right now, will bring some small measure of comfort.
Much love and friendship,

I met Peter back in the 80s. He attended my obedience school with his Rottweiler Britta. We shared a lot of great times and laughter at kennel club events, functions, training classes and just being friends. He also gave me my first job at MNR in the Parks department. Because of him, I learned computer graphics when it was in the "beginning" stages, developing and creating displays, brochures, handouts, etc. That experience provided me with the skills to further my employment with other organizations till my "retirement" with my near death experience in a moose/vehicle collision.
I remember his curry too. Absolutely LOVED it! I was so sad to hear of his passing. My very deepest regards to his family and close friends. Such a character who will be missed by many.

Some of my many memories of Peter involve food and technology. His curries were amazing and something to look forward to. I also recall Peter saying, post retirement, that his new job was in technology. When I laughed and welcomed him to the club i asked what he was specialized in. He said carrying Kelly’s laptop! He will be greatly missed by all.

I only met Peter in the last couple of years and it happened quite by accident when I was out driving my MG and happened go go by his house and the garage door was open showing the TR6 he had inside. I stopped and we chatted about cars and a I offered to help him out if he needed it. I introduced him to a few of my friends who also had British cars and it just went from there where some or all of use would come by to help with the car, just chat or celebrate his latest birthday with a "garage party". Peter really enjoyed his car and we all enjoyed being there with him to tinker, tell stories and just enjoy his company. Peter's friendly personality and never ending smile will be greatly missed by all of us and I extend my heartfelt condolences to Kelly and all the family at this trying time.

I met Peter through Kelly his wife and ironically knew Carole independently. He was a giant of a man and great to talk to about technology. I enjoyed taking photos of Kelly in Mauritius and sending then through to him. I met him in person in London but felt there was always a connection. My thoughts and Love are with Kelly and the family.
Go well
