To my Lovely Grandma Lorna,
I will miss you dearly and will forever hold you close to my heart. I know you weren’t ready to leave, but I am comforted knowing you are in a better place and no longer suffering. You were truly a fighter and were dealt some very difficult cards in life, but you always loved with all your heart and found joy in the simple pleasures. Everyone who knew you loved you, and thought of you as the sweet & kind woman you were. I always felt your unconditional love. I’m sorry for not calling you & visiting you more. Covid made this harder, but I am forever grateful that I could be with you during your final weeks here with us, when many of those who loved you couldn’t. I will cherish our memories, the hilarious moments that us kids will never forget, the way you said “our Emma” in your cute British accent, how you kept your home & garden (& ours when you visited), how you loved a Goodwill find, & how our beloved dog Sam loved you the most. You battled a mental illness, but I know you are now free. I will love you always and your spirit will live on forever as a part of all of us. Thank you to everyone who cared for her & loved her through it all. To my mom & Jim. Sending love to our family here & in England. & Thank you to the staff at Westmount Gardens for loving her and taking care of her when we couldn’t be there; we are truly grateful. Rest In Peace Grandma.

Grandma you are missed dearly. You had the heart of an angel and a contagious smile (both of them). I’ll never forget your sense of humour and your ice cold delivery, intentional or not… (is this your hat?) Christmas will never be the same without your trifle. Love you forever… Ryan, Jennifer, Teddy and Paisley. Xo

A LETTER TO MY MOM: LORNA 1941 - 2021
You only left yesterday and I miss you already. You were such a kind, thoughtful, giving caring person, as well as loving and strong. Mom, you had so many obstacles to overcome throughout your life, from a terrible childhood, being very deaf as well severe bipolar. Later in life kidney failure, hence dialysis, then the onset of dementia. Through it all when possibe you made the most of your life. You were always so grateful and made the most of each and every day.
You taught me so many things early on my journey. First was compassion as well as empathy and forgiveness. You taught me never to think or believe I am above others or better than anyone else as you never truly know what's going on in the background of another's life. I was never to take health for granted, it is everything. You taught me to make the most of each day and to enjoy the simple things in life as they are truly special and that we do not need a lot to be happy. You taught me to love beyond measure and to cherish friends and family and to always be kind to others.
For so much of your life, bipolar ruled the ebbs and flows, the hills and valleys and sometimes the monster consumed you.
When the onset of dementia came, the bipolar was the least on your mind, and for a few years, you became "just my mom. In so many ways the last 4 years have been a gift of truly knowing you - my mom and having our relationship of mom and daughter and not with your disease. I truly finally understood the closeness and the feeling and love of having "just" a mom.
In the short time we have here on this earth our blessings sometimes arrive during a very difficult time, as they say with every cloud there is a silver lining. I love you mom forever and always......
