Well to share a memory of 57 years of hilarity is extremely hard. My cousin Billy , William, Robert Alexander Downe never got tired of saying this mantra, When he found out we have Native blood , it became powatann blood , Powatan. Bill never got in a fight even though he was a big guy, he abhorred violence and was a peacemaker.
The memory that comes to mind is going up and down the path at there farm, me riding in the back of the riding lawnmower getting wiped by trees, laughing uncontrollaby . That farm was my safe place and Bill went hand in hand with that safe place.
I will miss him.
oh so much

Bill's humor, warmth, and passion were obvious to everyone who met him. I was lucky to have him as an uncle and cherish the many memories I have of laughing with him, talking politics, and sharing meals.
He will be missed by many.

Words cannot begin to express how sorry we are to hear of Bill's passing. Since he was a child hanging out at the Rinehart household with my brother Greg, his compassion for others, sense of humor, and love of life created many memories. The world has lost a good person. He will be greatly missed. Dave and Joyce Young

Bill was, and will remain, a true brother to me. His heart was huge, as was his courage throughout his life. He valued honesty and simplicity. We made sure there was no doubt in either of our minds how much we loved one another. I am lucky to have shared so much life with him and will be forever grateful. Lise

Dear Sandra, Mackenzie, Sue, Peter, Bret and Lise and all extended members of the Downe/Thompson clan,
All of the members of the Mackenzie-Gungor families share with you in mourning Bill's loss. His laugh and generous spirit will be remembered by all of us - especially that guffaw! I imagine in my mind's eye Bill Sr. and my father being on hand to greet Bill and hopefully they are all sharing a cold beverage of some sort up there.

I shared with Sandra the other day that I can still picture Bill sitting in front of his fireplace, chatting with me about the 1% and the ways in which so many have been rendered vulnerable. This was Bill and this is one memory I will cherish forever. The other is simply the light in his eyes that I saw every time he looked at his beautiful wife Sandra and adorable daughter Mackenzie. Bill was a man of honour and love and I am grateful to have known this special man. Elizabeth, Emma and Sara. xoxo

Thanks for dancing Bill, I will think of all the good times we had jumping up and down to a raucous cacophony of friends music being played in small clubs. My sincerest condolences to Sandra, Mackenzie, Susan and the rest of the family. From your pal, Al (and family)

Strength of character, strength of will and the sheer determination to be kindest, most selfless person you could know. Bill Downe had all of this in abundance. There was never a time when he couldn't make you laugh. Even through his sickness, he never worried about himself and he didn't want any of us to worry about him. He didn't let it define him. His inner strength grew. He helped his loved ones stay strong. Although the world has lost him, his light will never be extinguished. Rest In Peace Uncle Bill.

Heros walk among us everyday we may not know they are there standing beside us. They do not show their struggle and what they must endure daily. They may not think themselves as such but their courage, bravery, and battles they fight everyday to spend one more year, one more week, one more day, one more hour or one more minute with those they love shows us all their strength and determination. Ensuring your loved ones will be okay when their body cannot fight any longer and will take their final rest. But it also takes the courage and strength of those closest to you helping through the tough days, enjoying the good days and cherishing each minute to the fullest.
We will miss your smile, all the good times, laughs and great food. You will forever be in our hearts. You can now rest and watch over us from above.❤ Rest in peace Bill.
