Obituary of Adrian Torrington
Mark "Adrian" Torrington passed away unexpectedly on November 11, 2021 at his home in London, Ontario.
Adrian was born in Toronto, Ontario on October 10th, 1976 to Robert and Susan Torrington. He grew up in Ipperwash, Ontario and London, Ontario and lived in the Blackfriars area of London. He graduated from Western University with an Honours BA in English and worked as a graphic designer for the family business. He loved cats because they were loyal, curious, independent survivors... like him.
He is survived by his father Robert "Bob" Glenn Torrington of London and sister Arlin Kaarina (Rob) Cuncic of Mount Elgin and his niece and nephew Morgan and Tyler. He was predeceased by his mother Susan Torrington of London who passed away in 2020. He is remembered by many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.
Adrian was a lifelong artist who divided his creative time between abstract painting and creative writing. He published five books during his lifetime: The Sunspots of Serendipity, In French’s Forest, New London Masquerade, Fyreman and the Feral Knight, and Dark Bandit Sun. His final book "Eterniti'' was published after his death. He won awards for best religious piece and best use of the medium at Chalkfest London and created dozens of abstract paintings over the years. He also collaborated on numerous musical pieces as a songwriter.
In his writing and his life, Adrian was intent on seeing if you were paying attention. Symbolism wasn't just an abstract part of a creative work; it was a part of everyday life for him. After his mother's death, he shared his thoughts on the afterlife:
"Sometimes we see ... signs with open eyes, and sometimes while you're looking in one direction too much, it comes at you from the periphery. And so much of the time there is never any clear message behind the signs, except ... perhaps ... just reassurance or a nod to more to all of this than we really do know. Atheism is a very scientific and depressing approach to reality. Thankfully I have seen too much to discount the afterlife."
Adrian was cremated and his ashes will be returned to Ipperwash Beach on Lake Huron. Donations in his memory can be made to the London Humane Society.
