Obituary of Derek Lawrence Macartney

Passed away peacefully and comfortably with his family by his side at St. Joseph’s Hospice on July 16, 2017, aged 68, after a short but valiant fight to live against very aggressive cancer.  Derek is survived by his wife of 46 years, Janet Elfreda Macartney, and by his children, Andrew Lawrence (aged 45)  and Mark Richard (aged 42), and his beautiful grandchildren, Sarah, Alex, Liam and Abigail.  Also, daughter-in-law Deanna Macartney and grandchild Grace.   Derek was born to Charles Richard Macartney and Evelyn Ruth Macartney in Sheffield, England on February 6, 1949.  Emigrated to Canada with his wife, Janet and son, Andrew (at 2 years old) in 1974.  Son, Mark was born in 1975 in Kitchener, Ontario.  Derek had drive and passion in everything he did.  Recently retired from Corix Utilities in London, loved to golf and do woodworking in his immense workshop and made a true legacy in crafting a dining table for each of the boys, an office desk, and coffee and end tables for his own home, all in recycled wood.  He took the raw wood, cut it, planed it, shaped it and made wonderful pieces.  These items will be treasured by the whole family for years to come.  Cremation has already taken place, and there is a Celebration of Life (Open House) on August 13, 2017 from 2-4 p.m. at Carriage Hall, 25 Brock Street West, Tillsonburg, ON.
