Obituary of Richard Joseph Leon Brunet
Richard W. Brunet
Peacefully and with his beloved wife Irene by his side, Richard passed at St. Joseph’s Hospice in London, Ontario on the morning of Saturday, June 22, 2019.
His long and remarkable fight for his life lasted for over 8 years. The Brunet family always stayed by his side through every appointment and surgery. He inspired many with numerous speeches, fundraisers, benefits and a video entitled “This Isn’t Over Yet” in which he encouraged others to never give up.
Richard was the beloved son of pre-deceased Nelson and Blanche Brunet, loving brother to Normand and Gilles (Carol) Brunet and to his sister Dorothy (Leonard) Payette. Loving brother to sisters Lucille (Roma) Deschamps, Yolande (Pierre) Bécotte and Venise (Wayne) Laughlin. Cherished husband of 49 years to the love of his life, his beloved wife Irene (Lalonde) and three boys Jason (Nina) Chad and Nick (Melissa). His 5 grandchildren whom he loved unconditionally, Tristyn 18, Bryce 12, Noah 9, Isaac 7 and Alex 3.
The family would like to give special thanks to his liver specialist Dr. Roberto Hernandez Alejandro and all the wonderful doctors, nurses and health care specialists at the Victoria Hospital cancer clinic. He was cared for by his compassionate and beautiful nurse Sherry and the amazing staff at St-Josephs Hospice in London who supported and cared for Richard.
His last 3 months at hospice was made bearable by the extensive visits and well wishes from family and friends. A special tribute to his beloved nieces and nephews, family and friends who came from far and regularly to visit. We shared wonderful memories, laughs and meals. You are the army that walked him to his final resting place.
Richard was a musician, an athlete, avid golfer, coach, camper and a business executive, but most of all he was a caring and kind friend to all. He will be dearly missed, always loved and never forgotten.
A Celebration of Life will be held in Cornwall, Ontario later in the month. Donations would be appreciated to St. Joseph Hospice in London, Ontario in Richard’s memory.
